Leeds Heroes of 2007

Thanks to all that made a difference in the lives of so many!

Many of the comments that follow submission are from those that submitted them and with the exception of brevity we have tried not to edit them.
  • Dennis Ashley – As outgoing president of the Leeds Booster Club for his dedication to all student athletes and making them his number one priority.
  • Charles Banks For his love and care to students and parents.
  • Toby Banks  - For loving everyone in Leeds unconditionally.
  • Kathy Blakely - For all of the "Band-Aids" that she has put on the student athletes at Leeds High School.
  • Robert Blankenship - As the Editor of The Leeds News for bringing public awareness to the final stages of the Bass Pro project.
  • Judi Brasher - For her efforts in the mural restoration project on 9th street.
  • Andrew Briskey - For successfully taking on the roll of principal at Leeds High School, and truly loving and caring for each student there, and telling them so each and every day.
  • Joey Buzbee – For working with the Leeds Youth Baseball program for several years now and restoring the program back to where it once was.
  • Dennis Callaway - For his work in the concession stand at football games and other help, even after his child has graduated from LHS.
  • Emma Carter Brooks - For her efforts in organizing cleanup events in the Heights section and volunteer work on the 9th street mural project.
  • Sara Lou Connell - For her efforts in the restoration of the Bass House Museum.
  • Jack Courson - For taking the elderly to and from doctors daily and for his work with the Leeds Water Works.
  • Marie Cromer - For her efforts in bringing together numerous organizations to plan future events in Leeds.
  • Owen Drake - As our State Representative for his efforts in bringing money to our schools and organizations and being attentive to the needs of his constituents.
  • Jody Edwards  - For supporting the PTA, schools, band and community.
  • Keith Etheredge - For his dedication to athletics at Leeds High
  • Bob and Betty Forman - For their efforts in assisting Leeds Sports activities and community goodwill through the Leeds Lions Club and other organizations.
  • Pat Hall - For her efforts in numerous Scenic Byway programs that bring attention to Leeds state wide.
  • Barbara Higginbotham  - For her diligent work with the Welfare Cooperative in helping the needy.
  • Doris Jarvis - For her continued efforts to insure the citizens have an outstanding Library.
  • Tim Jennings - As a downtown business owner for his initiatives in future planning for the downtown area.
  • Henry Johnson – for using his talents as a volunteer carpenter in the building of the wooden bridges, handicap ramp, the pavilion and displays in the historical park, restoration of the Rowan House, Bass House, and for building the council table in the refurbishing of the City Council Chambers.
  • Cary Kennedy - As a member of the Leeds City Council for heading the finance committee and tightening the city budget to a manageable status.
  • Becky King - For her support of Leeds Sports Activities
  • Lee Laster - For his efforts in assisting Leeds High Sports activities.
  • Kelly Love - For her efforts in the improvements of the Historic District on 9th Street.
  • Dr. Carl Marbury - For his efforts in numerous organizations in preserving, recognizing and future planning of the many historical and economic areas of Leeds.
  • Euel Musgrove - For his dedication to the Leeds Welfare Cooperative and helping others in the community.
  • Dr. Billy Pack - As the top official of the Leeds Board of Education for his continued perseverance in our new schools projects.
  • Hayes Parnell III - As a business member of the community for sponsoring the Chamber of Commerce and advertising in various publications that bring news and information to Leeds.
  • Carol Philips - As a member of the Leeds City Council for her efforts in cleaning up downtown and bringing a modern playground to the community.
  • Beth Pool - For supporting the PTA, schools, band and community.
  • Amy Powers - For her support with the PTA programs.
  • Donnie Radford - For the hard work with the Leeds City Pool.
  • Opal Ramsey - After a 25 year service at the Leeds Civic Center still volunteers her time and services.
  • Shannon Ramsey - For the hard work with the Leeds City Pool.
  • Beverly Rickels - For supporting the PTA, schools, band and community.
  • Sabrina Rose - As a member of the Leeds City Schools for her efforts in bringing public awareness to school needs.
  • Jim Saxon - As a member of the Leeds City Council for his willingness to take on numerous projects to repair conditions in need from buildings to public works concerns.
  • Peggy Smith - For her numerous hours on the Depot Train Mural in restoring it to a fine piece of art once again, even with health issues while working.
  • Jan Stone - For her diligent work in streamlining the activities and events with the Chamber of Commerce.
  • Coach Jeff Thomas - For caring so much for the Leeds High School softball players and time given to these girls unselfishly. For his guidance leading them to win the first ever 3A State Softball Championship.
  • Bryce Thornton - As a Leeds Council Member for continuing to do his part on the council even while fighting health conditions.
  • Mike Turner - For the dedication that he has shown to his students and his teachers, and helping Leeds High School be the best that it can be.
  • Kenneth Washington – As a Leeds City Council Member for standing firm on his convictions.
  • T.V. Weaver - As Worshipful Master of the Leeds Masonic Lodge he began a program of assisting the Leeds Welfare Cooperative by allowing lodge members to pickup needed bread and other items for the cooperative twice a week.
  • Tac Whitfield - As mayor of Leeds for his actions to bring a balance to issues on the City Council that were often controversial.
  • Donnie Womble - For his continued efforts to help with the Bass Pro deal even after leaving the City.

We will begin taking your submission for Heroes of 2008 in November.
